Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Building Pathways to Inclusive Futures

March 15, 2025 — 12:00 to 6:00 PM @ Artexte

As part of the Art+Feminism mission, Artexte invites you to a Wikipedia edit-a-thon aimed at representing the work of artists, authors, and cultural workers from underrepresented groups on Wikipedia, including women, Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), people identifying as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ communities, as well as the disability communities.

In 2025, the Art+Feminism community invites us to reflect on what a truly feminist Internet would look like. As part of Artexte’s contribution, we will highlight artists and authors who reimagine borders and definitions of place. Through their explorations of territory, migration, displacement and diasporic communities, the work of these individuals contributes to our imagining of a truly intersectional feminist internet. Coming together to combat bias on Wikipedia is one step on the path towards building a more inclusive internet.

To participate:

Don’t forget to bring your laptop (BYOL)! Charging stations and Wi-Fi access will be available at all times during the Edit-a-thon.

To ensure that your Wikipedia contributions are counted as part of this collective effort, please register as an editor on our Wikipedia Edit-a-thon dashboard

Schedule:

  • 12:00–12:30 pm: Introductory Wikipedia training with Artexte Librarians, Léa Boisvert-Chénier and Kate Lewis (in French and English);
  • 12:30–4:30 pm: Art+Feminism edit-a-thon on Wikipedia;
  • 4:30–5:30 pm: Coffee break (coffee and snacks will be offered throughout the day).

Hybrid edit-a-thon:

On-site: join us at Artexte! We encourage in-person participation at Artexte to make use of the unique resources in our collection!

Online: can’t make it to our space? No problem! Join us virtually via Zoom during the contribution period. There are also more than 2,500 digital resources related to art in Quebec and Canada available in open access through our online digital repository, e-artexte.ca. Members of the Artexte team will be on hand at all times to answer your questions, on-site and online.

Support to edit on Wikipedia:

To help editors find and use reliable documentary sources, as well as edit and improve Wikipedia, members of the Artexte team will be on hand to answer your questions. A selection of BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and disabled artists’ files will be available for you to create, update, or translate their Wikipedia pages.

Whether you’re a Wikipedia buff or a neophyte, you’re invited to take part in the Edit-a-thon’s mission, which is part of a major international effort to eliminate the biases of inequality and underrepresentation in this free encyclopedia, with respect to women, BIPOC, disabled, and LGBTQIA2S+ artists.
