As part of the exhibition in a single breath, we invite you to our spaces to attend an open discussion between the exhibiting artist Sophie Jodoin and Stéphanie Béliveau; a multidisciplinary artist honoured in Jodoin’s projection, the central piece of her exhibition.
In addition to their professional relationship, the two artists have maintained a friendship which as translated into Stéphanie Béliveau’s support throughout the creation process of in a single breath. The discussion will be led by curator Mojeanne Behzadi, who has a curatorial perspective on Sophie Jodoin’s proposal, having accompanied her during her research residency (2021) and the production of her exhibition at Artexte.

Guests biographies:
Sophie Jodoin is a visual artist who questions various manifestations of femininity, intimacy, loss, absence, and language. Her hybrid work combines drawing, collage, writing, found objects, installation, and video. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Prix Louis-Comtois as well as the Prix Giverny Capital. She lives and works in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal.
Stéphanie Béliveau’s current work, whether in the form of installations, photographs, sculptures, assemblages, drawings, or personal archives, is largely inspired by her time spent on the coastline of the St. Lawrence River. The primary motivation for her practice is a commitment to creating an image of care, that is, to use her art to express the consideration and regard she has for the world. Stéphanie Béliveau spent her youth on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in the Charlevoix region, and now lives and works in Montréal. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada and internationally. In 1997, she won the Prix Pierre-Ayot for young contemporary artists, and has since received several grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. In 2008, a mid-career retrospective of her work, De l’intimité au reel, was presented at the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul.
