In[dispensable]*

* An incomplete exhibition of performance posters

September 11 - October 12, 2019

In[dispensable]* is an exhibition that presents collective musings by Artexte’s team in efforts to question dominant discourses in art history.  Through performance ephemera, we examine the notion of “indispensability” in art history. How do these absences inform the collection and contribute to a collective forgetting? By gathering and presenting performance ephemera, we wish to create a space within which to consider the visual culture of performance ephemera and present these documents as a generative site that encourages a reconsideration and expansion of how performance art histories could be written.

We would like to warmly thank Beck Gilmer-Osborne for their invaluable support on the research for this exhibition. We also wish to thank nènè myriam konaté for allowing us to use their conceptual approach for the layout of documents in the space.

Artexte on Tap 9: September 12th – 5:30 to 8:30 PM

Join us for a special edition of Artexte on Tap for the opening night of the exhibition!

Artexte on Tap is an ongoing series that takes place every two months, providing an occasion to engage in dialogue and share a drink in the library. Guided by specific themes and introduced by Artexte’s librarians and invited guests, a selection of documents will be presented to allow opportunities for discovery and to generate informal conversations about contemporary art and documentation
