Artexte has been part of the art scene for 45 years! Artexte is part library, part a documentation and research center, but also a space for exhibitions and the promotion of contemporary art.
Contemporary art is made up of ephemeral events: an exhibition on view for only three weeks, a one-night performance, a fanzine printed in only 25 copies, artist books in various formats, flyers, and posters ; all non-museum-based artistic practices… Artexte stands out in the Canadian visual arts ecosystem because it incorporates these materials into its documentary collection, which now includes over 38,000 cataloged items! This heritage serves as an important record of what has been created in contemporary art since 1965.
With the ongoing goal of preserving and enriching the collection, as well as maintaining the quality of our services for users—the general public, artists, researchers, and established and emerging curators—the Artexte team is reaching out to you today.
This year, your donations will help :
- the expansion of the documentary collection
- launch publications under “Éditions Artexte”
- the development of collaborative residencies, covering the whole “Canadian” territory
- maintaining knowledge-sharing initiatives such as Wiki – Art and Feminism
- purchasing specialized equipment to store and make documents accessible, as well as ensuring their long-term preservation
- retention of specialized staff to assure the treatment and accessibility of our public documentary collection as well as private archival collections
Support our mission at the heart of contemporary art!
