In collaboration with Centre Turbine, Artexte is pleased to present you Dream Voices, a project by artists Réjane Bougé and Chantal Dumais.
What are blind or visually impaired people’s dreams made of?
This question was the starting point of a collaboration between artists Réjane Bougé and Chantal Dumas during a creative residency with centre Turbine. Within the context of this project, the artists met with eight blind or visually impaired participants in order to collect the memory of one of their dreams. Using these testimonies, Réjane Bougé wrote eight literary portraits, allowing us to imagine each dreamer in their home environment. For the sound component, Chantal Dumas freely interpreted field recordings collected during the meetings with each participant. A web platform was then developed by digital creation studio Folklore, in order to share the work of the two artists.
Dream Voices is a web-based artwork accessible to blind and visually impaired people, as well as to the general public. More broadly, the project seeks to foster reflection on the notion of accessibility within the arts, specifically in the context of people living with visual disabilities.
