Blackity delineates the trajectory of contemporary Black Canadian art as witnessed by Artexte’s collection between the 1970s and the 2010s. The exhibition gathers some key moments and people to consider the thematic, aesthetic or conceptual threads linking them. By placing these documents in relation to one another, curator Joana Joachim begins to trace a temporal cartography of Black Canadian art history.

From May 12th to 22nd, 2022, the Montreal Printed Art Festival will be in full swing across the island, with a vast programming of satellite activities for its second edition. 

Artexte will take part of it on Saturday, May 14! First, Jessica Hébert [Librarian] and Jonathan Lachance [Documentation Technician and Support to Public Programming] invite you to discover some gems of printed art that can be found in the stacks of Artexte’s collection. Artists’ books of all kinds., fanzines, posters and more to be displayed. Then, explore Blackity, Artexte’s hybrid exhibition curated by Joana Joachim, in company of Mojeanne Behzadi [Curator, Research and Programming] and Anabelle Chassé [Gallery and Communications Assistant] for a friendly guided tour.
