Artexte X Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul

Memory, consciousness, imagination: art and politics

July 27 - August 26, 2018

« All anyone needs to aspire to politically is to do what they can, and to do their best. To change an opinion, or an attitude, or to modify a knee-jerk response, or to catalyze an ongoing process of personal transformation would be plenty. Undertaken collectively, it would be all we needed.”*

For the 36th edition of the Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, under the theme Art and Politics, we have prepared an exhibition that will be on display at the Symposium from July 27 to August 26, 2018.

The exhibition presents documents from Artexte’s collection, exploring artists’ practices which touch on issues of social engagement in relation to visual art. Through their practices, these artists denounce the social and political injustices of our era. Posters, ephemera, artists’ books, exhibition catalogues and monographs will present the projects of artists such as kimura byol-nathalie lemoine, Éloïsa Aquino, Camille Turner, Kim Waldron, Chris Lloyd, Clément de Gaulejac, Vincent Trasov (Mr. Peanut), Adrian Stimpson, Michael Blum, Just Seeds (collectif), The Hummer Sisters, Jeff Thomas, among others.
