Join us to celebrate a double-launch of More Caught in the Act and The 7th Sense: two new and indispensable books about performance art by women in Canada and Quebec. Editors, authors and artists of both books will host an informal conversation about their publications followed by drinks and book sales.
More Caught in the Act: an anthology of performance art by Canadian women, Vol. 2
Covering work made from 1990 to 2010, More Caught in the Act: an anthology of performance art by Canadian women is a valuable compendium of original research and writing on, and images of Canadian women in performance art. Like the first volume, Caught in the Act (2004), this book gives readers a first-hand glimpse into a vibrant and largely under recognized subject in contemporary Canadian art history. More Caught in the Act includes 29 comprehensive profiles of artists from across the country, along with five contextual essays that place current performance strategies by women within broader art historical and cultural contexts.
Edited by Johanna Householder and Tanya Mars, and designed by Zab Design & Typography, published by Artexte Editions, Montreal and YYZ Books, Toronto.
Launch price: 45 $
The 7th Sense: Practicing Dialogues / Practicing Workshops / Practicing the Daily Performative / Practicing Performance Art C
omprised of essays, a glossary, and contributions by 30 contemporary performance artists, The 7th Sense surveys the performative in, with, and through language. It explores a vocabulary as a process of naming and of articulating what happens before, during, and after a performative action; to express what is experienced by the artist who proposes a work, and by the audience who receives it. In this book, the TouVA collective presents multiple perspectives, plural yet singular, to consider the performative as an art, or as a way of life.
Written by TouVA (Sylvie Tourangeau, Victoria Stanton, and Anne Bérubé), cover image by Thomas Miau, designed by Émili Dufour and Mathilde Martel-Coutu, and published by SAGAMIE, Saguenay and M:ST, Calgary.
