LE DÉBUT DU SPECTACLE – A performance by Thierry Marceau

July 6, 2016 - 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM

It’s that time of the year again, the walkways of the 2-22 light up to enchant the public on the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Laurent. Thierry Marceau is back this July to present the 4th instalment of the large scale project 1/100 de 2-22, J’aime Montréal et Montréal m’aime, LE DÉBUT DU SPECTACLE!

LE DÉBUT DU SPECTACLE is a performance using the digital walkways, a mosaic of LED video screens and follow spot to flood the 2-22 in lights. This phase places the artist in a position to push his boudaries and call into question both his own work and the system that glorifies it. A position which usually causes spills… The images of the past remain engraved in our memories but the neighborhood has changed. Montreal has acquired an interface to present a variety of impressive cultural propositions and the 2-22 finds itself at the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles. For the corner St-Laurent / Ste-Catherine, it is the beginning of the show, can we demand that the artist to be spectacular? Lights, music, video and actors join Joseph Beuys (Thierry Marceau) in his attempt to feed the beast.

Initiated in December 2012, this 5 phase project is presented annually. Thierry Marceau is the first artist to creative a performance art piece as part of the 1% art and architecture integration policy, which opens up numerous possibilities and makes this project exciting.
