To celebrate the last week of the exhibition Changeover by Jason Simon, Artexte offers screenings of Chris Marker’s film The Case of the Grinning Cat (2004, 58 minutes).
With The Case of the Grinning Cat, Marker reflects on art, culture and politics at the beginning of the new millenium. It starts with the documentation of yellow cats painted on the walls of Paris. Over the next several years, Marker examines current events, political incidents, protests, election campaigns, scandals, all through the search of these “grinning cats”. In revealing the story behind the cats, Marker comments on the vital importance of such imaginative interventions in our public lives.
